Milan-born Luca Orlandi always wanted to be a fashion designer. After graduating from university in Italy, Luca moved to New York, where he opened the first Luca Luca boutique in 1992 and debuted his first collection the same year. The Luca Luca look was inspired by abstract painting. "When you look at a woman in black, and then you see a woman wearing color, it is the woman in color whose image remains with you," says Luca. Orlandi has a strong following of American women, and the fashion director at Neiman Marcus has said of his work, "While it's still very Italian in flavor, it's been tweaked so it really suits the American customer."
