Long Island native Michael Kors is known for his elegant, luxurious American sportswear. He started his fashion line in 1981 and credits as his major fashion influences Halston, Coco Chanel, and his mother. Kors says he designs for "a woman of any age, any nationality, [someone] fashion conscious without being a fashion victim." In recent years the designer has expanded his collection to include the KORS bridge label, a fragrance line and footwear, handbag and eyewear collections. Kors has been honored with numerous awards, including the 2003 CFDA Award for Menswear Designer of the Year, plus a series of awards for his flagship fragrance MICHAEL. His products are available at leading luxury department stores throughout the world, as well as his own retail locations in New York and Tokyo.
