Whereas most fashion designers are at the mercy of mercurial investors, Oliver
Christian Herold has the unusual luxury of controlling his own
purse strings thanks to a degree in International Business and
a well-paying gig at a bank. This kind of financial independence
has given Oliver the freedom to create his own distinctive look:
"The Oliver Christian Herold woman is modern, intelligent, and
not afraid to stand out in a crowd," says the designer, who
considers Karl Lagerfeld and Christian Lacroix his industry
heroes. Herold cut his teeth working for Isaac Mizrahi before
stepping out on his own. Going solo proved to be a good move,
as the designer was awarded the 2001 "Rising Star" award by
Fashion Group International.
