Disgraced rabbi Bernard Bergman, the proprietor of a chain of nursing homes, was convicted of defrauding the state government of $2.5 million in Medicaid funds. Patients in at least one of his homes complained that they were subjected to physical abuse and unsanitary conditions. Bergman was fined $2.5 million and sentenced to a year in prison.
