Some designers just can’t take being gored by Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn. Since Horyn’s rough review of Vera Wang’s fall collection on February 10 (“She is not an original-thinking designer … [she] spends too much time looking at other designers’ work, and with envy”), the fashion world has been speculating that Wang will ban Horyn from her shows. Already, Horyn is unwelcome at Carolina Herrera, Nicole Miller, and Dolce & Gabbana as protest against what they see as too-harsh criticism from her. “She has a lack of real education in the fashion business—she doesn’t even know how to pronounce Lanvin,” says Bud Konheim, CEO of Nicole Miller, who hasn’t invited Horyn to a show since she mistakenly wrote that PETA was protesting outside Miller’s show (in fact, the activists were upset at Baby Phat). Wang won’t confirm or deny if she’s excluding Horyn from her next show. “It’s a sensitive matter, and we’re not going to talk about it,” says a spokesperson. Times style editor Trip Gabriel said, “We’re disappointed that any designer chooses not to invite our reporters,” but they can still review it off the Internet.
