Who is the anonymous fashionista who’s been blogging as View From the Fourth Row? Her sniping tone—she maintains that Vogue’s Anna Wintour has “the worst shoe taste,” likens Harper’s Bazaar editor Glenda Bailey to an “oompa-loompa,” and keeps a running tally of which editors are “victim/poseurs” (including W’s Alex White)—has caused a certain amount of consternation in that clubby world as well as a lot of finger-pointing as to whom she really is. The latest top suspect, according to these style sleuths, is Cosmopolitan’s fashion director, Michelle McCool, who also has a Cosmo-sanctioned blog called Fun Fearless Fashion (which went up in September, about a month after Fourth Row’s debut). She emphatically denies it. Their reasoning? McCool can be found in pictures from an “intimate” supper with Consuelo Castiglioni at Bergdorf Goodman, an event the site chronicles in depth, and Fourth Row never takes a swipe at any Cosmo editor. McCool says she’s never even heard of the site. “It’s funny that someone would think it’s me. I’m flattered, I guess,” she says.
