“5pointz is the world’s largest display of graffiti art, and it’s a global social hub. On any given day you can probably meet someone from Asia, someone from Europe, some guys from New York. On old-timers’ days, graffiti kings from the golden era come to socialize. Seeing Stay High 149, one of the most important taggers, paint can only be compared to hanging out in the dugout with Derek Jeter. Now that it looks like that’s going to disappear, I’m not sure where the movement’s going to go. You don’t really get the same diversity in smaller locations. People who write graffiti tend to be cliquish. People find good spots [to paint] and friends let friends in. It’s not as democratic and available to all people.” —Eric Felisbret, author of Graffiti New York, as told to Ben Adler.
