Juan De Leon
Outfielder
b. September 13, 1997, in Santo Domingo
Signed on July 2 with the New York Yankees for $2 million.
How do you know you’ll be able to make it in the big leagues?
Because God knows, and the team that signs me.
What kind of town did you grow up in?
Very poor. It was poor and humble and happy. In the morning, my grandmother would make me empanadas and I would go early to school. I would get out of school around six. And then I would practice all night, every night.
How do you think this money will change your life?
The money isn’t everything. It’s more important to be a person with humility. Humility is better than all things. The money is vanity.
Are there other things that you’re looking forward to?
To be the best player in the game and the face of the team.
