For New York's cover story, Lisa �Miller charted Parkland survivor �David Hogg’s transition from high-school senior to face of the gun-control movement (“David Hogg, After Parkland,” August 20–September 3). Amanda Litman, executive director of Run for Something, tweeted, “When he’s 25, he’s planning on running for Congress. Count me in as a donor.” And Ralph J. Young, author of Dissent: The History of an American Idea, wrote of Hogg’s cause, “It is encouraging to see the passion and political activism that has emerged from the tragic Parkland murders. Students like Hogg have matured way beyond their years and initiated a powerful movement. I guess surviving a mass shooting has that kind of clarifying effect and focuses the mind. Realizing that it is senseless to appeal to lawmakers’ moral sense, the students have gone to the heart of the matter by appealing to their fear. It won’t be a sudden awakening of lawmakers’ moral sense that will get sensible gun legislation �enacted, but their fear of a mobilized horde of 18-to-30-year-olds who will flood to the polls in 2018 that will force them to find the �courage’ to act.” Some readers were alienated by Hogg’s remark that older Democrats “won’t move the fuck off the plate and let us take control. Nancy Pelosi is old,” with @MillyClaire writing, “Age limits on Congress are a terrible, ageist idea. Just as young people deserve representation, so do older folks. I hope he acknowledges the sexism of singling out Pelosi on age, but I won’t hold my breath.” At least one older reader finished the article admiring Hogg: Dee Caruso wrote, “What a neat kid. It may not happen in my lifetime (I just turned 80), but I hope he becomes President someday. Someone like him is what this country needs.”

2. In his profile of Andrew Cuomo, Chris Smith asked whether New York’s defiant governor can win another term as an ever more �distilled version of himself (“Cuomo, Again?,” August 20–September 3). Ravi Gupta, an alum of Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign, wrote, “Kudos to [Smith] for an absolute banger on Cuomo. Well worth the read if you want to learn about NY politics.” The Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey added, “What tells you the most about his iron-fist control: The number of people who know him well only willing to speak on background.” The transit blog �Second Ave. Sagas chirped, “Not even Monday, and Andrew Cuomo has found a way to lead off the week lying about his MTA responsibilities.” And commenter aaron.x.myers added, “No politician has been so popular and gotten worse press than this guy.”
3.� For our first-ever print issue of the Cut, Allison P. Davis took cover star Tessa Thompson to Frank’s Cocktail Lounge in Fort Greene to find out what makes the actress so magnetic (“Tessa Thompson Knows People Can’t Stop Thinking About Her �,” August 20–September 3). A number of readers objected to the headline, with commenter Punksten writing, “I never think of Tessa Thompson.” As for the story itself, the Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon wrote, “Can I just say, damn, [Davis] is a next-level writer and profiler. This Tessa Thompson piece is so good.” And reader Chris Conroy tweeted, “The photography in this is FULLY out of control. Nice job, @AwolErizku.”
