Of the two new Usa Network summer series, I so far prefer The Net (Sunday, July 19; 9 to 10 p.m.; Saturdays thereafter), with Brooke Langton in the Sandra Bullock role as Angela Bennett, the mild-mannered computer hacker who intercepts somebody else’s e-mail and loses her electronic identity. Devoted as I am to Bullock, Langton seems to me just fine, and they have added a lot of plot to sustain a series – a lost father, a helpful “Sorcerer” in the person of Tim Curry, and cyberspace terrorists apparently responsible for every historical horror of the past fourteen years.
The other USA series, Sins of the City (Sunday, July 19; 10 to 11 p.m.; Saturdays thereafter), stars Australian heartthrob Marcus Graham – he looks like Tyrone Power and sounds like Steven Wright – as a Miami cop who starts his own private-detective agency after he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit by the lieutenant with whose wife he has been guiltily sleeping. Atmospheric, yes, but as slow as sap in a tree older than the redwoods.
