Converting two brownstone duplex apartments into a single-family townhouse? No problem, say these buyers. “They’re experienced renovators,” says William B. May’s Kathleen Hoffman, who brokered the sale. They earned their stripes gutting a loft space in the Village a few years back, and this time, they plan on tearing out the upstairs kitchen and bathrooms and keeping the mahogany banisters and façade intact. It’d be an ambitious plan for any new homeowners – except that one of these buyers is an architect.

Six months into their first pregnancy, this couple, moving from Northern California, bought a house based on every expectant mother’s fantasy: a white picket fence in the suburbs. “Four months later, she woke up in Princeton, New Jersey, and said, What have I done?” reports Halstead’s Robin Horowitz. Horowitz, along with her sister and partner, Nancy, quickly found the couple this TriBeCa condo. “Luckily, they had an extra couple million to spend,” says Horowitz.
