One of the fanciest blocks in town—West 14th Street between Ninth and Tenth avenues—might seem an unlikely spot for a temple of subtlety like the jewelry shop Tenthousandthings (423 West 14th Street; 212-352-1333) to relocate to. But loyalists can rest easy: The jewelry itself hasn’t changed—it’s still exquisite and delicate and unique.
All designers David Rees and Ron Andersen were after was more space in which to showcase their stuff—and the opportunity to sell, on a rotating basis, the work of other designers who intrigue them, like Lola Brooks, whose beautiful carved-agate eighteen-karat-gold earrings and necklaces are now on sale.
Also coming out of the vault are fabulous necklaces like a long cluster of diamond briolettes on platinum ($12,700), eighteen-carat “buttercup” blue-sapphire earrings ($1,665), and unique boulder-opal teardrops with an eighteen-karat-pink-gold “paisley” cluster ($5,220). It’s unlikely that the purists at Tenthousandthings will be influenced by flashy neighbors like Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, but it’s almost certain that their following will grow: Just about everyone who finds this place falls in love with something.
