A look at the inspiration behind our magazine’s latest cover.
New York Magazine’s November 2–8 cover features Willie Nelson talking to contributing editor Wil S. Hylton about his crusade to stop Big Pot. With legal marijuana the fastest-growing industry in the United States, according to a recent study, Nelson and his company Willie’s Reserve are working to protect the plant he smokes every day from the corporate influence he’s been fighting all his life.
“The more Wil Hylton spent time with Willie Nelson, the more unusual — and interesting — we found his ambitions for his pot company to be,” says deputy editor David Haskell of the inspiration behind the story. “Willie’s Reserve is about as political and messianic as a for-profit company can be.”
