Vulture and New York Magazine culture editor Lane Brown announced today that Craig Jenkins (@CraigSJ) is joining Vulture and the magazine as pop-music critic, writing reviews and commentary. Brown also announced that Jen Chaney (@chaneyj) is joining Vulture as TV columnist, reviewing shows alongside Vulture’s lead TV critic, Matt Zoller Seitz, and weighing in on topical TV debates of the moment. She will also join the Vulture TV Podcast.
“Craig is a smart critic and terrific writer, with wide-ranging tastes, infallible radar, and the ability to explore big ideas while clearly explaining to readers what the music actually sounds like. He’ll be a fantastic addition to our stable of critics,” says Brown. “And in the era of Peak TV, Vulture is fortunate to have a writer of Jen’s knowledge and taste to help our readers make sense of it all.”
Jenkins has written for Pitchfork, Billboard, Spin, Noisey, and more, and studied English at Gordon College in Massachusetts. He lives in New York City and starts at Vulture May 31.
Chaney has been a journalist for more than 20 years, much of which has been spent covering television, film, and popular culture. After more than 12 years at the Washington Post, where, among other things, she co-wrote the Celebritology blog, she was a freelance contributor for numerous outlets, including the New York Times, Uproxx, Esquire, The Dissolve, and others. She has also previously written for Vulture, including recaps of Games of Thrones and Downton Abbey. Her book, As If!: The Oral History of Clueless, As Told by Amy Heckerling, the Cast, and the Crew, was released last July. She lives in Washington, D.C., and starts June 1.
