The tight-knit child stars of Netflix’s Stranger Things, which is returning for a second season this fall, pose on the cover of New York Magazine’s Fall Preview issue, which highlights the TV, movies, books, albums, restaurant openings, and more our editors are looking ahead to.
“We realized very quickly in our research they’re not kids anymore — they’re full-on teenagers,” New York Magazine’s senior photo editor Roxanne Behr says of trying to decide what the cover concept was going to be. “We wanted to do something that had an element of elevated style, but still feels age-appropriate, so that’s how we arrived at the idea of doing a period denim look.” Behr says the photo team was inspired by a Levi’s ad she passed along to New York Magazine fashion director Rebecca Ramsey.

“You can tell that they have spent a lot of time together over the last year and a half,” says Behr of being on set with the cover subjects. “They are best friends and were so excited to see each other. You can tell they’re at this incredible moment in their lives, and we were thrilled to get to capture that, as well as their love for each other.”
