January 2018 was New York Media’s best month ever in terms of web traffic, with 42.3 million users at sites nymag.com, Vulture, the Cut, Daily Intelligencer, Select All, the Strategist, and Grub Street (Google Analytics). This was a 20 percent increase over December 2017 for the network as a whole, and each vertical saw growth over the prior month. The previous high was 36.4 million users in November 2016.
The top stories driving traffic for the month included the cover story adaptation of Michael Wolff’s new book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, a post on YouTube star Logan Paul’s visit to a “suicide forest” in Japan, a ranking of every episode of Black Mirror, Moira Donegan’s essay on creating the “media men list,” a profile of Glenn Greenwald, and a leaked video of Chris Matthews joking about his “Bill Cosby pill” before interviewing Hillary Clinton.
