Vulture today announced the introduction of a new TV-focused daily trivia game, Telematrix, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of its popular movie trivia game, Cinematrix. Telematrix is launching as a twice-weekly grid game that offers players a chance to test their TV knowledge via the same engaging quiz format featured in Cinematrix, which has become a regular habit for film buffs.

The Cinematrix franchise will also expand to 14,000 movie screens nationwide via a partnership with Screenvision Media, one of the nation’s leading cinema advertising companies.

Cinematrix is consistently one of Vulture’s top-performing destinations, bringing in a loyal audience of superfans. Vulture has begun to deepen the relationship between Cinematrix and Hollywood talent by inviting stars to design their own games, beginning last month with Julia Fox. Next up, Vulture will build on the success of the format by challenging avid TV fans with Telematrix. Every Monday and Thursday, users will be provided clues along the top and side of the 3x3 grid, aiming to identify a television show for each of the nine squares that satisfies the two intersecting clues. Players will have nine guesses to complete the grid — make a mistake and the quest for perfection will have to wait until the following day. Categories will span both scripted and unscripted TV.

“TV obsessives comprise a significant portion of our audience, so it was always a question of when, not if, we’d introduce a TV grid game — especially after we saw the immediate enthusiasm for Cinematrix,” says Neil Janowitz, editor-in-chief of Vulture. “I really value the interactive relationship our games have enabled us to cultivate with our readers, and look forward to expanding that audience with Telematrix and our partnership with Screenvision.”

Cinematrix’s partnership with Screenvision Media creates a unique opportunity to connect with the highly engaged moviegoer. Screenvision’s “Front + Center” preshow will feature Cinematrix on screens across the country, giving audiences the opportunity to participate in a themed trivia game related to the film. The first edition premiered on February 17 and featured a Harrison Ford clue that was timed to Captain America: Brave New World.

“Vox Media has been a fantastic partner, and I’m eager to see how our highly engaged moviegoing audience enjoys the ‘Front + Center’ version of the Cinematrix game,” said Ted Bolan, senior vice-president and creative director at Screenvision Media. “Trivia has long been a favorite for moviegoers and our brand partners, and this addition enhances Screenvision Media’s entertainment content. We’re excited for even more innovations to the show coming this year!”

Telematrix comes as an addition to Cinematrix and Vulture’s 10x10 crossword puzzle, which have already become essential for subscribers and part of their daily gaming regimen. Vulture will be sending out all three puzzles in the daily Vulture Games newsletter.
