From Durris to Juventus

Andrew Cotter presents the extraordinary story of when two Scottish footballers helped Juventus, one of the biggest clubs in the world, win their first ever championship title.

Several leading Scottish male footballers, including Denis Law, Graeme Souness, and more recently Lewis Ferguson, Che Adams, Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay, have paraded their skills in Italy. Yet only two Scotsmen have ever tasted championship victory and savoured la dolce vita at the same time – and the chances are you could mention the names Jack Diment and James Squair to a group of soccer aficionados and even they would be none the wiser about these men.

This is the extraordinary story of when this Edinburgh-born and Durris-raised duo were welcomed into the Juventus ranks in 1904, and within a matter of months, had helped the club win their first-ever championship title. (Now known as The Scudetto.)

The life of Jack Diment is brought to life with the help of actor and football fan Colin McCredie, helping to tell the story of his incredible sporting life in Italy at one of the world’s most famous clubs. Jack brought his own unique Scottish playing style to the Italian game, and was even nicknamed ‘Il Mulo’ for his no-nonsense approach on the pitch!
