Scientific Posters, Ring, Oxygen Dispenser

Episode 24 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including a scientific poster, compass, ring, mini-library and oxygen dispenser.

Nigel Havers welcomes five more sellers to the Bidding Room, where they try to sell items to professional dealers who are on the lookout for interesting pieces, with help from expert Simon Bower.

First up is Luke, with a collection of 12 educational anatomical lab posters that he bought at a car boot sale for £50. Dated to the 1930s and despite the artist being a mystery, there is a strong commercial market for pieces like this, but which dealer will be top of the class and make the highest offer?

Our second guest today is Carolyn, who has travelled from Ipswich with a dry magnetic ship's compass she inherited from a cousin a year ago. Made by Lily and Reynolds, and possibly dating from the 1930s, could Carolyn sail away with the deal she’s looking for?

Third to arrive is Olga, with an Edwardian nine-carat, white gold, aquamarine and diamond ring. It’s certainly eye-catching, and with magpie Melissa in the room, can she strike gold and get the deal she wants?

Next to arrive is Julian with a miniature reference library made by renowned luxury London store Asprey. The collection belonged to Julian’s grandfather, who was in the Royal Navy and used the books to help him with the Times crossword each day. So, whilst book collections can be tricky to sell, will the heritage brand and family history make the grade for a top trade with the dealers?

Last through the doors is Paul, who has travelled from Birmingham with a piece that wouldn’t look out of place in Call the Midwife. The oxygen tank or ‘portable anaesthetic machine’ dates from the 1950s and was purchased by Paul to turn into a lamp – a project he hasn’t completed. Will his vintage machine deliver when it goes in front of the dealers?

The dealers today are Ian, Melissa, Jon, Jacqui, JB and Vikki.
