Who knew Alec Baldwin—he of the pugilistic reputation and the bombastic TV alter ego—would live in such a cozy, homey place? Baldwin’s former home, a duplex on the Upper West Side, has no doorman, concierge, or much of anything that screams celebrity. (Though it does have a roof deck.) Then again, he wasn’t a star yet when he lived here: Baldwin bought the place in 1986, well before his breakout role in The Hunt for Red October. At the time, he was opening on Broadway in a revival of Joe Orton’s Loot and acting on TV shows like Hotel and Knots Landing. (His greatest real-estate moment, as the hyperaggressive executive Blake in Glengarry Glen Ross, was likewise a few years off.) In 1995, two years after he married Kim Basinger—and seven before their pyrotechnic divorce—he sold the place and moved on. Corcoran’s Lolly Totero hints that there may be another reason he liked the place: “It’s the easiest building to slip in and out of [without anybody] knowing what’s going on in your personal life,” she notes.
