On the heels of a Fashion Week marked by unabashed seventies nostalgia—big hair, bug-eye shades, and, yes, hot pants—filmmaker and photographer Lyle Owerko pays homage to another of the decade’s iconic arrivals: the ghetto blaster. The Boombox Project: The Machines, the Music, and the Urban Underground (October 1, Abrams Image; $24.95) shows off close-ups of the bulky stereos of the late seventies and eighties alongside commentary from such authorities as Spike Lee and Fab 5 Freddy.
