More than a dozen vintage carousels, flying swings, and other Truffaut-like attractions have landed on Governors Island, where they’ll be up and running every weekend through September 29. This is the U.S. debut of the traveling Fête Paradiso festival, which was dreamed up last year by French cookware baron and carnival-antiques collector Francis Staub, along with restoration artist Regis Masclet. Buy tickets at a century-old gilded booth: $3 rides and games include an 1897 bicycle carousel, meant to hype the then-novel mode of transportation, and a 1934 Charlie Chaplin–shaped ball-guzzler (sinking five in a row wins you a free drink). There’s also a beer garden (formerly a bumper-car pavilion circa 1900), which serves bistro fare from New York’s Le Gamin.
