New Yorkers have it bad when it comes to buying furniture. There’s the cheap (Ikea), the expensive (most everything else), and virtually nothing in between. Our geography makes it hard to hold a tag sale, and the flea markets are disappearing. We asked several interior designers to reveal their best local sources, and nearly everyone named the Housing Works Thrift Shops, which have seven locations throughout the city, including a new branch in Brooklyn Heights (122 Montague St., nr. Henry St.; 718-237-0521). At the 23rd Street location, we found the wooden cupboard pictured here, for $295. It needed a little cleaning, but you can’t argue with the price.
