Nan DeLuca uses gouache, a water-based matte paint, and inks to create her elegant designs. This Society of Scribes board member has been featured in InStyle Weddings and Entertainment Weekly, and will even do entire invitations for you. Envelopes in black ink start at $3 each.

This store carries ketubot by more than 50 American and Israeli artists, with texts ranging from Orthodox to same-sex, in Hebrew and English ($40-$400; order four to six weeks in advance). For an extra $65, artists will fill in the blank areas of each lithograph with beautiful calligraphy.

Couples who want original marriage contracts rather than prints come to Weinberg. After your consultation at her Upper West Side home, she'll pore over biblical quotes and inscribe a contract-in Hebrew, English, or Aramaic-that expresses what's dear to you, from nature ("Great waters cannot quench love, nor many rivers wash it away") to the etymology of your Hebrew names (from $1,200).

Her Westchester County business has flourished during the past 27 years through word of mouth, and Manhattanites who've been to a lot of local weddings will probably recognize her work. Elyse Stein Meyerson has been hand-painting ketubot for six years. She uses rich colors and intricate detail to create each ketubah based on the personal style and requests of each couple. Rather than being limited to precise religious text, the document can be inscribed with personal words or vows that are chosen by the couple. A wedding-invitation-envelope designer for more than twenty years, Kakstys has clients including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Ralph Lauren, and the Vanderbilt family. She works in a classic style called Chancery Cursive and will accommodate special requests like transcribing handwritten letters to future in-laws and poems for grooms-to-be. Skilled in many styles, including copperplate, italic, and Hebrew calligraphy, he has designed sumptuous illuminated ketubot for clients. Custom monogram design is also offered.
