Since owner Thomas Barbagianis opened his shop in 1975, he’s been re-creating the memories of his childhood garden near Delphi, Greece. This studio approaches event design as if it were a gallery installation—think globes of baby’s breath suspended from the ceiling like clouds, beds of grass with poppies "planted" in them, and entire walls covered with floral tapestries. Adler and partner David Stark take care of all the aesthetic elements of an event, including furniture, lighting, and invitations. Regarding prices and the high-class clientele, they are unfailingly discreet.

The city's premier orchid seller, this shop buys directly from designer Banchet Jaigla’s sister in Holland, so it corners the market on arresting blossoms like the Black Magic vandas that Jaigla used in Julianne Moore’s bridal bouquet. Floral designer Mary Krueger and her partner, Andrés, spend several months of the year in Europe gathering inspiration and props for their over-the-top “mini-operas.” They claim to limit clients to brides whose imaginations match their own, like the one in the Hamptons who turned a 160-foot tent into a Baroque hall of mirrors, complete with hedges, a ten-foot-tall Bellini backdrop, and a reflecting pool.
