Antony Todd
260 W. 36th St., nr. Eighth Ave., 8th fl.
212-367-7363
antonytodd.com

If you're looking for elaborate but modern arrangements, designer Antony Todd is your man. He doesn't want his prices listed, but his résumé—which includes Martha Stewart Weddings editor Darcy Miller's nuptials and the Byzantine Ball for Save Venice—should give you a sense of the league he's in.

Ariella Chezar Floral Design
518-584-8798
ariellaflowers.com

A veteran of California wine-country weddings, Chezar eschews tight arrangements for ones that look happened-upon, teeming with citrus fruit and strange vines. Many of her materials are FedExed here by West Coast "foragers," though she also digs into her own collection of antique silver vases. Bouquets and centerpieces from $350.

Ariston Florist
69 Fifth Ave., at 14th St.
212-929-4226
aristonflorist.com

Since owner Thomas Barbagianis opened his shop in 1975, he’s been re-creating the memories of his childhood garden near Delphi, Greece. Think big, fat bouquets with attention to seasonal colorings, such as sweet peas and grape hyacinths in the spring, and mango and burgundy calla lilies in the fall, all tied together with berries and a satin or lace ribbon. Centerpieces and bouquets are $75 to $300.

Artfool
161 Allen St., nr. Rivington St.
212-253-2737
artfool.com

By appointment only
These East Village buddies take a tag-team approach: Jack Myers does graphic design and film work (anything from table cards to Websites), while Matthew Robbins handles the floral arrangements and general décor. Expect bold colors and contrasts (hot-pink anemone with orange poppy), often with textural elements like berries, seed pods, and olive branches as central components rather than as mere filler. Centerpieces from $200; bouquets from $250.

Avi Adler
87 Luquer St., nr. Henry St.
Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn
718-243-0804
aviadler.com

This studio approaches event design as if it were a gallery installation—think globes of baby’s breath suspended from the ceiling like clouds, beds of grass with poppies "planted" in them, and entire walls covered with floral tapestries. Adler and partner David Stark take care of all the aesthetic elements of an event, including furniture, lighting, and invitations. Regarding prices and the high-class clientele, they are unfailingly discreet.

Banchet Flowers
809 Washington St., nr. Gansevoort St.
212-989-1088
banchetflowers.com

The city's premier orchid seller, this shop buys directly from designer Banchet Jaigla’s sister in Holland, so it corners the market on arresting blossoms like the Black Magic vandas that Jaigla used in Julianne Moore’s bridal bouquet. Unflinchingly contemporary and architectural, the designs never lose the natural quality of simply being flowers. Bouquets from $275 to $325; centerpieces from $265.

Belle Fleur
134 Fifth Ave., nr. 19th st.
212-254-8703
bellefleurny.com

Fashion editors flock to this mom-and-daughter shop for upscale designs at moderate prices. The arrangements here are bright and lush but have a contemporary feel. These days, they’re mixing Eastern and Western styles by juxtaposing orchids with peonies or adding tropical leaves to traditional bouquets. Bouquets from $175; short centerpiecesare $150 to $250, and tall ones are $275 to $500.

Bill Kocis Important Flowers
917-751-5543

By appointment only
A favorite with celebrity clients like Kim Cattrall and Woody Allen, this boutique florist focuses on details like faux-gem accents and glittered rose tips. Kocis recently filled an event space with white twigs, hanging orchids, and colorful chrysanthemum pompoms to create a snow-fallen look. Prices for bridal bouquets start at $200.

541 Lexington Ave., at 50th St.
212-832-8094
bloomflowers.com

Walk into owner Kimberly Perrone’s shop and you’ll be bowled over by her modern yet elegant combinations of traditional and exotic flowers. The arrangements are some of the chicest around (the nearby W Hotel is a regular client). Bridal bouquets start at $200 and centerpieces at $275.

Carmona Design and Events
212-414-8400
carmonadesign.com

By appointment only
Floral designer Mary Krueger and her partner, Andrés, spend several months of the year in Europe gathering inspiration and props for their over-the-top “mini-operas.” They claim to limit clients to brides whose imaginations match their own, like the one in the Hamptons who turned a 160-foot tent into a Baroque hall of mirrors, complete with hedges, a ten-foot-tall Bellini backdrop, and a reflecting pool. Prices upon request.
