Unfailingly traditional and romantic, Kostas Panagopoulos uses viburnums, lilacs, and hyacinth in such abundance that you’d think they were growing straight from the table. He never takes on more than one wedding per weekend (about twenty a year). And while his main clients are big-money types who can pay $125 to $400 for a centerpiece, or $200 to $400 for a bouquet, he’ll also work with brides on budgets—as long as they’re as passionate about flowers as he is.

In addition to fine flower arrangements, you can find something a little different at this shop that searches out unusual blooms: Flowers by Richard is the home of the cabbage rose, which actually looks like a cabbage head. Richard Sonnick, personal florist to Mad TV comedian Nicole Parker, makes it a point to make each order fresh and to take on only one wedding per day. He also guarantees his flowers for 48 hours and will work with any budget.

Dan Dahl and Kevin Esteban have a passion for exotic and tropical blooms: brunias, jasmine, and dancing lady ginger, for starters. Brides looking for minimalist, tone-on-tone arrangements should go elsewhere; that said, with this team, interesting doesn’t mean cluttered, and the work is as sleek as can be. Centerpieces start at $150; bridal bouquets at $225. Jane

A floral designer in Britain for more than twenty years (she did
Fergie's wedding), this trendsetter is relatively new Stateside.
Packer, who still works from England, takes a sleek approach that
means "no twee little flowers"; lately she's been sewing vintage
items, like buttons from a bride's grandmother's bridal dress, into
bunches of pale-pink roses. Centerpieces are $150 to $5,000, and
bouquets are $75 to $5,000.

Former Ralph Lauren design director Jennifer Houser is known for romantic arrangements, often involving giant branches and fruit treated like flowers (think centerpieces made entirely of baby pears and artichoke). Splitting time between the Hamptons and the city, Houser counts many big shots from both Hollywood and Wall Street as fans. Centerpieces from $185; bouquets from $150 to $400.

After just three years in the business, this Harlem designer has amassed an impressive client base, including her neighbor Bill Clinton. Her style is elegantly flashy, mixing bold colors and sometimes tropical flowers with flourishes of unnatural elements, like copper wire and Swarovski crystal. Bouquets from $125; centerpieces from $75.

Lewis Miller's luxurious designs have a deeply European aesthetic,
fixed somewhere between the Middle Ages and the eighteenth century.
The former California farm boy and Belle Fleur alum scours the flower
market for unusual specimens (he'll do pastels, but he prefers moody,
dark, and dramatic). Prices are high, but he declines to list them
for fear of discouraging smaller clients who are willing to take
a chance.
