If You Buy One Thing on Prime Day, Make It This Fugly Noise Machine

Though it’s not going to win any awards for its looks, the Dohm sound machine is a Strategist (and therapist office) favorite and has been a constant bedside companion since I first wrote about it back in 2017. I first got it when I was living in an apartment with extremely thin walls — so thin you could hear the neighbors’ phones vibrate. So thin that I knew their Thai takeout order. After getting the Dohm, I heard absolutely nothing, and my sleep immediately became deeper and sounder. Unlike newfangled noise machines, with their rain forest chirps and crackling fires, there are only two fan settings and a volume control, both of which can be operated while you’re basically still asleep. My husband and I are now fully addicted to the lull (we truly cannot fall asleep without it), and so is our baby son, who has one in his room, sitting on a bookshelf directly next to the crib. The womblike whoosh is clearly comforting for him, and it masks any noise we make in the apartment, whether we’re screaming at the TV during a tense basketball game or if I realize I’ve accidentally left my phone in his room and have to tiptoe in there to get it. Right now, for Prime Day, this stormtrooper-helmet-like gizmo is $31 (the cheapest it’s been since earlier this spring, when it was a Gold Box Deal of the Day). Oh, and Judd Apatow’s a fan, too.

The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments, rolling luggage, pillows for side sleepers, natural anxiety remedies, and bath towels. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
