Even though Vitamix blenders are beloved by professional chefs and Amazon reviewers alike, I was skeptical that they were worth the price, which can easily approach $600. Then I used a Vitamix blender — we had one in the test kitchen at my last job — and I fully became a convert. The blender was way more powerful than I imagined it would be, and it readily handled any task I threw at it, from blending a Burger King–inspired Lucky Charms milkshake to juicing celery. And if a Vitamix could pulverize stalks of celery into bright green juice despite all that stringy cellulose, I reasoned, there’s really nothing it can’t do.
So I caved and became the owner of a Vitamix blender, and now, after years of hard use, it is one of the most-used, most reliable tools in my kitchen. I’ve used it to make hummus from canned chickpeas, blend frozen bananas into a creamy faux ice cream, even purée vegetables into hot soup. Just this past weekend, I made “cheese” for a vegan lasagna in under five minutes by dumping tofu, nutritional yeast, garlic, and salt into the container and quickly blitzing it.
The biggest development that has occurred since I wrote a version of this post in 2019 is that my boyfriend — a very nice man who would always rather grab something to eat than make it himself — is finally a Vitamix convert too. His go-to drink this summer was frozen margaritas, made with whole citrus fruits and lots of tequila, and he was happily reaching for the Vitamix to whip them up. On the other end of the spectrum, he’s gotten into making himself smoothies in the morning with peanut butter, bananas, frozen berries, yogurt, and ice, and though it’s a bit loud, the Vitamix gets the job done every time.
And once again, this much-loved blender is on sale for Prime Day — for the cheapest it’s ever been. This A3300 is the top of the line, with a built-in digital timer that helps when following recipes (or giving directions to the aforementioned boyfriend) and Bluetooth capabilities that allow you to control your blender from your phone.
If you want a cheaper Vitamix blender, this Vitamix Explorian is just $179. Yes, it’s “renewed,” but for Vitamix, that means it’s gone through a 17-step process at Vitamix’s factory in Ohio to make sure everything is working smoothly. Plus, it’s still covered under a five-year warranty.
