If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked TikTok star Addison Rae — who, at the time of publication, has more than 55 million followers on the platform and just launched a clean-beauty brand called Item Beauty — about the hair straightener, slippers, and body lotion she can’t live without.
I wear these everywhere. I bought them a few months ago, and I’ve literally worn them every single day since. They’re so cute and they’re insanely comfortable. I like that they have the band in the back because, first of all, they stay on my foot. Second, I feel like the band almost makes them less of a home slipper and something I can wear casually out of the house. I can’t dance in them because they have a little bit of a platform, but other than that, I seriously wear them all the time.
This is my favorite toothpaste. I’ve used it for so long, ever since I randomly bought it at a Dollar General store while on a trip. I really like the taste of it. I didn’t pick it because it has baking soda, I just kind of stumbled on it. Maybe the baking soda is why it really works? I don’t know, I just feel like it works the best.
My hair is pretty much in between curly and straight. It naturally has a good, beachy wave. But since I dyed my hair dark, I think it looks really good when it’s completely straight. I don’t straighten it every day, but probably every other day. I like hair tools that can get really, really hot and this straightener just gets so hot — and it stays hot — which is really good for my hair because it’s super thick. It holds pretty well after I straighten it with this.
I have a skin-care routine that I do every morning: It’s a moisturizer, a serum, then always a body lotion. This one is really good because it’s clean. I always try my best to get clean products. Not all of my products are clean right now, but it’s something I’m working towards. This is really light; it’s not super thin where you rub it and it feels like nothing went on, but it’s not too thick where you feel like there’s a whole layer on you. It’s right in between: I don’t feel it, but I know it’s hydrating.
I’ve used a few different diffusers over the years. Whenever I need a new one, I look for a different style to get. This is the one I’m using right now; I bought it a few months ago. I use my diffuser every night — I feel like it’s more natural than a candle, and there’s no smoke residue. To go to sleep, I like to use it with lavender or tea-tree oil. This diffuser has a timer so I can set it to stay on pretty much throughout the night.
I used to use ponytail elastics all the time. But I didn’t like how they felt, and they crease your hair, which I don’t love — especially after I straighten it. And I don’t really use scrunchies that often unless it’s a style thing and I’m wearing it for a reason. But I do use a clip because it doesn’t crease my hair and makes it super easy to pull it up fast. I really like the tortoise-shell ones. They just look cute. My mom wore clips all the time growing up and she still does. That’s probably the one pro tip I learned from my mom.
Every morning, I play music after I wake up. And I usually go to sleep with music. At night I’ll listen to softer music, like Pink Sweats or Frank Ocean, because it’s really relaxing. In the morning, I’ll change it to something more upbeat. The Echo makes it easy because you can talk to it to change the song or whatever. It’s also pretty much my weatherman. While it’s mostly beautiful all the time in L.A., lately it’s been rainy and cloudy, and my Echo tells me that before I leave the house.
I love hoop earrings and I have these in gold and silver. They’re a key element of my outfits every day, for the most part. Jennifer Fisher earrings are really high quality. I found the brand through Instagram. I was looking at stylists’ accounts because I really like to see how they put outfits together, and they tag all the brands. I don’t really remember which account it was, but I liked the earrings in the picture, so I clicked and found the brand’s page.
Oh my gosh, I’ve been wearing American Eagle jeans probably since middle school. I have a photo from my first day of school in sixth grade and I’m wearing American Eagle jeans in it. I really love their stretchy mom jeans because I’m a dancer. I dance so much that I want stuff that’s super comfortable. I also like ripped jeans; I think rips are always really cute with sneakers or even heels — you can dress them up or dress them down. Since moving to L.A., my style has changed a bit. It’s more street and I’m putting looks together more often. It’s not that I’m wearing anything drastically different than I did in Louisiana, but now it’s much more thought out.
