Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy (like pillows), but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed (that’s four-to-five-star reviews and lots of ’em) products and single out the most convincing. We’ve written before about the best smartwatches, affordable men’s watches, and automatic watch winders. Here, we’ve rounded up the best dive watches, according to the people. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)
“I really like this watch a lot. At first, I was skeptical about the brand, but after talking with a few of my friends who own Invicta watches, I was convinced to buy it. I love the look and the heavy, but not too heavy, feel. It’s a clean and simple design and looks like a Rolex, but at a huge fraction of the cost. I like the fact that it’s an automatic wind mechanism. It hasn’t lost a minute of time. I match it up to my phone’s clock and it’s always the same. Amazing!”
“While I generally prefer thin watches, I wanted to get a new beach/swimming watch — one that was large enough to read easily in the water (without my glasses, of course) and was hearty enough to remain dependable. Both of these needs have been well met by this Stuhrling Aquadiver. It keeps impeccable time and has proved to be waterproof in pools and in the ocean. In addition to its nice functionality, once I wore it for a while, I began to like the heft of it — make no mistake, this is a large watch. I have worn it as a dress watch when there is no water around and received a good many compliments on it.”
“I needed a watch that would be water-resistant in order to spend time in the water as well as have a low enough profile (37.5 mm) that I could wear it with a buttoned shirt, and look good while doing so. This watch satisfied all of those needs. To add to the review, I love how easily the watch glows in the dark. I can see the hands and the hour markers easily. The unidirectional bezel function allows me to elapse time perfectly whether I am underwater, or in the kitchen timing an egg.”
“Love the watch. Exceptional quality, construction, and appearance for the price. I had a Rolex and anybody would have trouble distinguishing between the two. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great-looking watch at a reasonable cost.”
“I bought this watch for my son-in-law for Christmas and he was very pleased with it. We both found it to be a very handsome watch, and both being watch addicts, gave it our immediate seal of approval. The only problem I have is, I may have to get one for myself.”
“I’m a huge watch junkie. I own most brands from $30 through $10K. I wanted to add another ‘rugged work watch’ to the list, and after reading a lot about the new INOX, I made my choice. For the price, this watch is very nicely finished. All brushed and polished edges are done so very well. The hands look great, and although the indices are stamped out of the dial (so they’ll never fall off or become loose) they are made to look like they are applied separately and the look really works. The crown is protected very well, and a fixed bezel means you can beat the crud out of it without worrying about the bezel breaking.”
“This is a great watch. I know there are better and more expensive watches out there, but it’s the first one that cost me this much money and so far I’m very pleased. I’ve been wearing this watch for a little over a week and I love it. It’s very comfortable, easy to use, and fits my skinny wrist nicely despite being slightly bulky. It’s the best of both worlds having analog with digital. The fluorescent hands and hour marks glow bright all night long and are very easy for me to read in the dark without even having to use the nightlight button, which works great, too. I enjoy the compass feature and the ruggedness the watch offers. It’s also a very nice-looking watch. I hope to get many years out of it.”
“This is a great watch! A classic diver. Solid construction; love the blue color on the face and the band. The orange hand is great, easy to tell time. Luminescence is great. I like the offset screw-down crown; it shows it is a true diver. The band is comfortable and pliable. Also, long enough to go over dive suits. It will be great for diving and/or boating or for any other water sports. Or just to hang out and have a cool watch. It looks great. Buy with confidence, this is a great classic diver with a modern twist. Citizen surely does not disappoint.”
“As somewhat of a watch aficionado, I was slightly apprehensive to introduce a Seiko Solar into a collection filled with antique Swiss artifacts. However, the reviews of this particular watch and even some of its Seiko counterparts were too intriguing not to give it a try. I am certainly glad I did. The manufacturing quality of this watch rivals that of an Omega Seamaster or a Tudor. It is extremely well-built, has an excellent weight to it, and the sizing is darn near perfect. The movement appears to be extremely smooth and flawless. To my surprise, this watch quickly became one of my favorite pieces and has earned a regular spot in the rotation. If you are on the fence with this one, buy it. You will not be disappointed.”
“This watch looks good and is water-resistant down to 200 meters (660 feet). I don’t go scuba diving as much as I used to, but this is what I use when I go. I set this watch twice each year — when daylight saving time changes. Other than that, it’s accurate to the minute. You can spend the extra $4,000 for a Rolex, but it won’t be any more accurate. I would buy it again.”
“This is a beautiful watch and is definitely attractive enough to wear as an everyday watch rather than just a dive watch. Many dive watches are too large for women to wear attractively, but this one is the perfect size. I have a rather small wrist and a larger watch looks too much like I stole it from my husband. I know that big is in, but I prefer a watch more appropriate in size for a woman’s wrist, and this one definitely is.”
“When the watch arrived, I was surprised by the size. I really didn’t think it was this large, and I initially thought they sent me a men’s watch accidentally. The next week, I noticed when I was out shopping that a lot of women were wearing larger watches. I decided to jump out of my comfort zone and have been wearing and loving this watch ever since. I’ve also received a lot of compliments on it as well. It’s my new bling!”
