Earlier this week, fashion influencer and Elle U.K. contributing editor Camille Charrière posted an Instagram Story featuring a futuristic-looking facial steamer she called “one of the best beauty gadgets EVER.” Charrière said she bought it on the recommendation of model and friend Adwoa Aboah, who allegedly heard about it from a surname-redacted Hailey. Although we can only guess that the “Hailey” whom Charrière refers to is the model and Rhode founder Hailey Bieber, we did some comments-section sleuthing on Charrière’s main-feed post (also about the steamer) and found the exact model: Sarah Chapman’s Pro Hydro-Mist Steamer.
Designed by a London-based facialist of the same name — whose clientele includes other glass-skinned celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Jourdan Dunn, and Gigi Hadid — the steamer is apparently inspired by the machines at Chapman’s Skinesis clinic that use microscopic steam particles to cleanse pores. The brand says the at-home contraption also helps supplement moisture levels and remove “dulling dead skin cells.” I’ve never known a steamer to do much for dead skin, so I checked with dermatologist Dr. Karan Lal, who confirmed that steamers don’t exfoliate on their own. Steam does, however, open the pores, which makes it easier to slough off skin cells with a chemical or physical exfoliant. On the topic of supplementing moisture levels, Lal says steaming can make the skin readier to hold on to water.
And after some further snooping, we do believe that Bieber uses the same model: We spotted the steamer’s distinctive fluted nozzle in a series of Instagram Stories from last year in which Bieber detailed her at-home facial routine.
