If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hairspray and the electric toothbrush. We asked rapper Tyla Yaweh — whose new single with Da Baby, “Stuntin’ On You,” is out now — about the candy, headphones, and cologne he can’t live without.
When I have the munchies, I like to eat Sour Patch Kids. They’re the first thing I go for when I get those cravings. The watermelon ones are my favorite, for sure. But all of the flavors are fire. I usually go all out and buy a jumbo package. If I’m with my friends, I am nice and I share, but mostly because I can’t eat the whole bag by myself.
There’s nothing better. They get so loud, and I’m damn near deaf so that’s one reason why I like them. I wear them when I work out. I wear them when I record. I wear them when I chill. I just love them. They’re super comfortable — sometimes I fall asleep with them on. I have the wireless ones now but my parents got me my first pair of Beats for Christmas years and years and years ago.
I grew up playing video games, to the point where I would sneak play in the morning until I had to get on the bus for school. I’ve always played on an Xbox — the quality is just better. I mean, the PS4 isn’t bad, I know people who like it, but I prefer the Xbox. Most of my friends also have one, so it’s easy to connect online and play together when we’re all at home. We pretty much just play Call of Duty. Oh, and Mortal Kombat. That game is dope, too.
I never go anywhere without one. These things are being used — I use them like a public bathroom: all day every day. The ones I buy are always pink, but I lose them a lot, so I just take other people’s. By the end of a day I will have somehow collected maybe six lighters? But at least I never run out.
Don Julio just gets the party started. I started drinking it when I moved to L.A. Before that I was really into Remy Martin, but now I’m all about tequila, and Don Julio tastes better than any other brand. I drink it pretty often, not every day, but it’s definitely my drink of choice. It just has that vibe; I really enjoy it. And I don’t get hangovers or stomach aches after drinking it, which is very important.
My manager, Bobby, was wearing this one day and I was like, “Yo, what is that?” It’s really expensive, but it’s so worth it. I’m on my second bottle now because I wear it every day. We all have a memory for scents and people remember me from this scent — like, “Oh yeah, Tyla, he smelled good.” It smells exotic, like nothing I’ve ever smelled before. You only need a little bit because it’s strong and it doesn’t leave your clothes. You can probably smell me through the phone right now — it’s that strong.
I started drinking Fiji because I liked the name. I mean, Fiji just sounds cool. But then when I drank other water that wasn’t Fiji, I thought it didn’t taste as good. Fiji tastes the best. I always have a bottle. I don’t mess with Dasani — everyone hates on it for a reason.
Oh man, I love my Audemars Piguet. Have you ever seen Titanic? Remember the iceberg that hit the Titanic? That’s what the watch looks like: ice. Mine is customized, and I told the people making it to just bling it out in ice. Buying the watch was a big milestone for me. It was really a moment of pride — like damn, I can afford to buy it for myself. Growing up I always wanted a Rolex, then I got it. Then I wanted an Audemars Piguet, and I got it. Next on my list is a Patek Philippe.
Pink is my favorite color, so I had to make a pink sweatshirt for my merch line. The hoodie is so comfortable. I’ll rock it with some joggers and slides, or sometimes with sneakers. I was really involved in the design process — my team and I wanted all the Rager Boy stuff to be unique and high quality. At night in L.A., it gets really cold real quick, so I have to make sure I have a hoodie in the car or somewhere close.
