Some Fall Shoe Ideas

This roundup of things we liked this week originally appeared in the August 22, 2024 edition of the Secret Strategist newsletter, a weekly email where we share the stuff our staff — plus a rotating cast of writers, design-world people, and various others with very good taste — would otherwise keep to themselves. If you want to get our picks straight to your inbox each week, sign up here.

Like sickos, we’ve both been taking pictures of people’s feet at our coffee shops! We captured some Nike V2K running sneakers and those steel-toe Troentorp clogs we’ve already told you about. —Katy Schneider and Simone Kitchens

This Week’s List

* Other good fallish shoes from our senior editor, Winnie Yang: these cheap plimsolls from Japanese brand Moonstar. They’re modeled off of traditional Japanese school shoes and look like a BensimonsShoes Like Pottery hybrid. They also come in a MJ style.

* Is the coffee table in this Michael Bargo space a Roger Capron? Either way: We’re now wishing for a Roger Capron coffee table. (More here, here, and here.)

* This Florentine line, Gregue, is awash with good fall basics at reasonable price points; see sheer-y dress, stripy long-sleeve.

* Look at that: Sandy Liang wearing our favorite Margaret Howell striped long-sleeve.

* It would be nice if Agnès B. showed literally one other picture of this long snap-button skirt, but we’re interested nonetheless.

Editor’s note: Agnes B. lists all prices in euros, so the price shown is an approximate conversion to U.S. dollars.

* This Italian Vibia funnel wall-ceiling light is a really nice flush-mount alternative. Much cheaper on eBay.

* For those who have exhausted the supply at Lara Koleji and James Veloria, there’s a new vintage store in Chinatown you’ll like. It’s called 194 New York, and it has a similar collection at a lower price point.

* A pair of tinted-but-not-overly-so sunglasses from Buck Mason that would also work inside.

* And one of our favorite stores, Outline, is selling a bunch of its own furniture, including an Akari 21A for $450, a Kartell FL/Y pendant for $375, and a nice, simple wood daybed for $450. (There’s also a rug, a dining table, some handsome stacking tables, and a really great sink.) Everything is best offer; DM the shop!

Some Facebook Market Finds

* Stripy couch for $150 in Ridgewood
* Chrome chair
* Couple of Cescas
