Hollywood Regency Mirrored Trash Cans on the Mind

This roundup of things we liked this week originally appeared in the July 27, 2024 edition of the Secret Strategist newsletter, a weekly email where we share the stuff our staff — plus a rotating cast of writers, design-world people, and various others with very good taste — would otherwise keep to themselves. If you want to get our picks straight to your inbox each week, sign up here.

Really hope one of you rushes to pick up these exceptionally well-priced swirly wrought-iron chairs from Midtown East. The seller has them listed for $75 on Craigslist but $150 on eBay. For reasons we’re trying to sort through, we can’t link the CL, but just search “Vtg Brown Wrought Iron PAIR Ice Cream Parlor Chair - $75 (Midtown East)” and get them for half-price. —Katy Schneider and Simone Kitchens

This Week’s List

* WOW: a good price on a Crate & Barrel apartment sofa. For not that much more, a new feather-filled version from World Market.

* We saw a Hollywood Regency mirrored trash can recently and thought, How great! A Hollywood Regency mirrored trash can! Found a few around the internet.

* A triple torchiere appeals.

* Good sale on a purple pillow.

* Great kilim rug from the new Vincent Van Duysen collection with Zara Home.

* Piet Oudolf’s Swiss-made Altorfer deck chair. These vintage ones from Telescope — a few here on eBay — are similar and cheaper.

* These “sock-on” Montbell sandals, which Michael Zhao wrote about on the Strategist proper, are very cool; we like the green-and-black and the all-reds. Gray with a little red strap is nice too. Also, this purple-and-red pair on Poshmark is special.

The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
