This roundup of things we liked this week originally appeared in the November 14, 2024 edition of the Secret Strategist newsletter, a weekly email where we share the stuff our staff — plus a rotating cast of writers, design-world people, and various others with very good taste — would otherwise keep to themselves. If you want to get our picks straight to your inbox each week, sign up here.
We have a soft spot for Mephistos. When we noticed that they were the only shoes artist Chase Hall seemed to wear (he owns 50 pairs and was inspired to buy his first by Mephisto-obsessive Steven Spielberg), we asked him to write about them. When our writer Lauren Ro showed up at the office with a pair, half the staff felt moved to get them too. We now own pairs, and we’ve given them to people we live with. We’ve recommended them in the newsletter multiple times. And now we’ve partnered with the brand to give one reader their own pair — your choice of the women’s Rush or the men’s Match. This Week’s List
* Eny Lee Parker has a Connecticut house, and it has an Instagram account. There’s always something neat to see, like these wrought-iron fish chairs with woven rush seats. Found a set of four in Bozeman, Montana.
* Looking for ribbed cutlery. This Nils Johan set (the ideal) we included here last November sold, but this Dansk Thebe set (more here, here and here) is close.
* Maryam Nassir Zadeh posted a picture of herself in a pair of tall red Uggs, and Chloë Sevigny posted a picture of herself in the shearling-lined Sunbursts en route to vote, and okay, fine, now we kind of want a pair of either.
* These sheer socks are cheap and game-changing.
* Very rare fall Rachel Comey sample sale happening next weekend. Also, big Nomia sale starts today at its Brooklyn store until Sunday (then online Monday, November 18, through Friday, November 22).
* Some handsome pewter picture frames: here, here, here, and here.
* These &Daughter knits are niceeee.
* Gohar World opened its second pop-up on Mott.
* Charlap Hyman & Herrero released a new line of pillows for the Future Perfect. They’re very expensive, but beautiful, made of recycled Japanese kimonos and French tapestries. Peruse here.
