This roundup of things we liked this week originally appeared in the September 26, 2024 edition of the Secret Strategist newsletter, a weekly email where we share the stuff our staff — plus a rotating cast of writers, design-world people, and various others with very good taste — would otherwise keep to themselves. If you want to get our picks straight to your inbox each week, sign up here.
You know we love a spiral chair. If this one is still for sale, we say run, don’t walk. These Luigi Serafinis are also otherworldly but extraordinarily expensive and would have to be shipped from Minnesota (unless you live in Minnesota!). Hoping to one day find the version with colorful seats. —Katy Schneider and Simone Kitchens
This Week’s List
* This little sheer-y tote is kind of the perfect night bag.
* A J.Crew roll-neck sweatshirt and a Buck Mason mock-neck sweatshirt.
* We learned about GU, Uniqlo’s sister brand, which just opened a store in New York, from Strategist writers Laurn Ro and Liza Corsillo. We liked the look of a lot of things they tried on during their visit. Namely: these straight-legged, mid-rise khakis and this cool little ribbed cardigan.
* Steven Alan has a new store (511 W. 20th St.), which he introduced on Instagram wearing these elfin-ish shoes. Kind of into them.
* This Shaina Mote “ballet tee” (a.k.a. scoop-necked light sweater) is GREAT! (But you also know how we feel about sold-on-Amazon Capezio leotards as a fall base layer.)
* In the same color scheme (as the ballet tee): This Undo hair clip is very pretty.
* We love architect Robert Finger’s Cape Cod house, and specifically his red Min bed, by DWR, in the lofted bedroom. Simone owns it too and loves it. (“It’s the best version of a metal bed,” she says.) Sadly, it seems to no longer be sold (you can sometimes find the bed on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace; here’s one in white in Union Square and a black one in Park Slope), but in the meantime, this one, from Finnish Design Shop, is more expensive but indistinguishable.
The Strategist is designed to surface useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Every product is independently selected by our team of editors, whom you can read about here. We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
