What Shay Mitchell Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair, but the hand sanitizer and the electric toothbrush. We asked Shay Mitchell of Netflix’s You, whose newest collection for her travel line Béis debuts next week, about the instant ramen, lip balm, and scented candle she can’t live without.

I love this candle. It’s the one I have on the island in my kitchen. I love it so much I sometimes throw it in my bag before heading to the airport just because the scent reminds me of home even when I’m far away.

I’m constantly on my phone and there is nothing more daunting than when it says “low battery.” To avoid any such ten-percent anxiety, I am sure to keep two to three of these bad boys in my bags at all time.

Nothing I hate more than underwear lines. These are not only comfortable but chic and smooth so your outfit isn’t interrupted by pesky seams.

I’ve taken black tourmaline with me on every audition and it’s always something I have nearby to help deflect negative energy. Rose quartz, too, helps with relationships, love, and communication. I don’t necessarily subscribe to the whole crystal idea, but it’s interesting to consider, and at the very least beautiful to have around the house.

One thing I hate is having dry, chapped lips. I always bring my La Mer Lip Balm with me to keep my lips soft. I love the consistency and how it keeps my lips moisturized all day.

Literally my bible to relationships of all kinds. I honestly think this book should have been a mandatory read in school; I’ve learned so much about myself, and my relationships with others, that has contributed to long-term growth. I think I found it through one of Oprah’s Book Club lists or through a friend. I honestly can’t remember but whomever it was I owe big time. This book has legitimately become an integral part of my life, and my go-to guide for relationships.

One of my guilty pleasures is this instant ramen. Eating it brings me back to my high-school days, and is still one of my favorite snacks. I still have it once every few weeks. Sometimes I do travel with it, and I have definitely “upped my game” in terms of customizing. You can actually see my secret tips and tricks for at-home ramen on YouTube in a few weeks.

Being on set and on the go all the time, while also being someone that cares about the environment, I try to avoid disposable, single-use plastics whenever possible. I found this water bottle and take it with me everywhere; it’s large enough that I can fill it once and keep it with me all day, the equivalent of nearly five single-use bottles.

From all of my travels I’ve learned what essential items I need on the road, and how to store all my valuables. One of the things that I’ve created with Béis is the literal PERFECT cosmetic case that has a removable stand-up mirror, a detachable brush holder flap, and is deep enough to carry all of your most beloved beauty essentials. It’s what I always wanted.
