I resent how much I love my Skims shapewear, so much so that I often lie about wearing the brand or feign ignorance altogether. “Where is that from?” someone will ask about my everyday bralette. “Fashion Nova,” I say sometimes. Or even “Amazon.” I would rather say I’m wearing a dupe than admit I bought something from the woman who coined the term “boxer braids,” but I’m here to admit that I own a lot of Skims. I have a bralette for every day of the week, and I buy a new bodysuit every season. I even purchased a T-shirt, because I couldn’t resist the brand’s knack for postapocalyptic, dusky hues. Unfortunately, the products are good. The bralettes are butter-soft and hold me just right, freeing me from the confines of underwire. The shapewear disappears my waist and lifts everything into place, and it has been the only option I’ve found that didn’t make me look bunched-up or boxy. But I’m still a woman of principle, so even though I can’t stop buying Skims, I refuse to buy it at full price. Well, the time has come for me to fill my cart. For the first time, Skims is discounting its Fits Everybody line, meaning that lots of my favorite pieces are on sale, along with some things I’ve been meaning to try out. My picks, below.
I own eight of the Skims Fits Everybody scoop bra, which are, for me, exactly what a bralette should be. The bras are stretchy and comfortable and a bit compressive, creating the curvy silhouette I’m always chasing. They’re so comfy I can sleep in them, unthinkable in any other garment. I have an array of skin-tone-colored shades along with black and buy a few of them every year. The original one I bought nearly four years ago is still holding up well, save for a small seam that’s beginning to come apart. The compression has essentially stayed the same, and my first one is just as good as my most recent.
My go-to bralette, the popular Fits Everybody scoop bralette, is out of stock in my favorite shade, Jasper (I’m gutted; please respect my privacy at this time!), but there’s lots of stock of the racerback style, which is the same as the classic scoop in the front but comes up a bit higher in the back, offering more coverage. It should be noted that these are final sale, so if you buy them, they’re yours to keep. On that same note, in my experience, Skims fits true to size (for reference, I’m a size 16/18 and wear a 2X), and there’s plenty of stretch, so there’s not a ton of risk involved.
I’ve also heard good things about Skims’ thongs, which come up high on the hip and dip down under the stomach to create a striking silhouette. In other words, they’re sexy. I’m generally opposed to underwear that isn’t made out of cotton, but I could see these being essential for a nice night out or to the gym — sometimes you just don’t want a panty line!
I own one of the Skims camisole bodysuits, which looks nice underneath outfits and acts as a nice base layer with very little compression. I’ve been eyeing the square-neck version of the bodysuit for a while because I’ve seen a bunch of people in them and they look great (I’m easily influenced). Now feels like a good time to try it out, and luckily, there’s a bunch of stock available in lots of shades.
I also want the high-neck bodysuit. I bought a popular Amazon dupe of this one as well as the Zara version, and while both of those are generally fine, they’re not quite perfect. I do like the silhouette, though, so perhaps it’s time to invest in the real thing.
