If you’re looking for quality down at an affordable price point, you can’t go wrong with Uniqlo’s line of down jackets, coats, and vests. My family and I own several items that we’ve been wearing for years. I personally think Uniqlo excels at making down pieces that are lightweight and excellent for layering, like this “powder soft” puffer that’s extremely lofty without the bulk. My colleague Hilary Reid and I both own a version of this from several years ago, and it’s superlight and fluffy. It has a cocoonlike shape and roomy arms that make it perfect for wearing over chunky sweaters — like my Babaàs with raglan sleeves that usually bunch in my other coats. Because it’s “constructed without down packing,” according to the description, a.k.a. more loosely filled but still with 750-plus fill power, the jacket won’t be as warm as, say, a down parka, but it’s great for throwing on in milder winter weather.
