Hi, I’m Dr Ranj and today we are going to imagine that we are heading off to space.
Let’s brace ourselves ready for take off.
Strap yourself into your rocket and get ready to blast into the sky by jumping up and down.
Ready? Three, two, one.
Blast off!
That’s it!
Keep going until we reach the moon.
Wow. That was a lot of rocket fuel you guys just burned up and boy was it worth it because we’re now in space orbiting the moon where it’s lovely, calm and peaceful.
Float around with me and look.
All around us is dark and still.
Can you imagine that you are the moon?
As you take a slow, deep breath in, stretch your arms up into a whole moon shape and release as you breathe out.
Fantastic, let's go again!
Sometimes we can feel unsure in ourselves which doesn’t feel nice.
But we can do something to help change that and to believe in ourselves again.
Ok, we’ve been the moon, time to be the stars.
Copy me and make a star shape by balancing on one foot.
It’s ok if you are a bit wobbly, try it on each leg to see which feels best.
What stars you all are!
Fantastic.
Sit yourself down with your legs crossed and your back nice and straight.
Rest your hands on your knees and take some long, deep breaths.
How do you feel?
I feel much less worried now I've have had some time to stop, breathe and rest.
Keep taking those deep breaths, listen and imagine.
Imagine you are a star of light, floating in space; calm, relaxed, peaceful and free.
You can travel wherever you like.
Think of something you are good at, or would like to be better at.
Know that if you keep trying - you can achieve anything.
Send yourself thoughts of peace, hope and love.
Know that you can become whatever you want.
Send those positive thoughts to all your friends around you.
Amazing. Let’s float gently back to Earth now.
Back to our nice, warm classroom.
Do you feel any different?
Taking time for ourselves is important.
It’s ok to doubt yourself sometimes.
But I find that doing some gentle movements and taking time out can help me to believe in myself again.
Let's say together “I believe in myself”.
Ready?
“I believe in myself”.
See you again soon.
Stay chill, bye!
TV presenter and medical doctor Dr Ranj invites you on a space adventure, using dream-like visualisations alongside dynamic and slower mindful movements to encourage a feeling of calm.
Pupils undertake dynamic movements such as star jumps, through to slower yoga-inspired poses such as moon and half-moon stretches, ending with a short guided meditation.
The video can be used to help pupils feel less anxious and stressed, having had time to themselves to stop, breathe and rest.
Being able to use our imagination is a powerful tool to help us see alternative possibilities.
Teacher Notes
Teachers can use this activity to encourage pupils to draw upon positive memories or to visualise what the future might look like. This can help to remind them of more positive ways of feeling and what there is to look forward to.
We advise teachers and parents to review the Moodboosters video prior to showing it to children at school or home, and consider the activity’s suitability for space, accessibility requirements and how it may be received by pupils.
Teachers should ensure that the learning environment is safe and supportive for all pupils during viewing, especially when they are asked to share ideas, feelings and emotions.
Visit the Teacher Guide for more information and support.
Curriculum Notes
Moodboosters classroom resources can be used for teaching primary school pupils aged 5 -11 PSHE in England, Health and Wellbeing in Wales and Scotland, and PDMU in Northern Ireland, and to support with Ofsted, Estyn and Education Scotland requirements.
