Tanglewood, Massachusetts
After the concert, hit the high note at local hotels.
From the March 24, 2003 Issue of New York
If you’re already forking over a few hundred
bucks to see the Boston Symphony Orchestra at
Tanglewood, why not go for broke? There’s no
question that Wheatleigh is the best hotel in the
Berkshires. The gorgeous nineteenth-century palazzo
isn’t overly opulent, but plush fabrics, Tiffany
stained-glass windows, sweeping staircases, and
in-room fireplaces spell pure luxury. And if your
weekend is centered around the BSO performances,
there’s no better place to stay: Wheatleigh is
just a short walk from Tanglewood. The restaurant at
the hotel is superb, but consider booking a table at
local favorite John Andrews. Beyond Tanglewood, the
Lenox area has no shortage of cultural pursuits, from
museums (Norman Rockwell) to fine galleries (Holston)
to dance performances (Jacob’s Pillow) to
theater (Berkshire Theatre Festival) to opera
(Berkshire Opera Company).
