Miami
Your very
own townhouse in the heart of South Beach
From the March 26, 2001 Issue of New York
If you can't get a reservation at BondSt, here's a solution: Fly to Miami. Jonathan Morr (the APT, Blue Door) has opened Townhouse, a cheap-chic boutique hotel, a few doors down from Ian Schrager's $400-a-night Delano on Collins. And there's a BondSt Lounge in the basement. The stark white decor, designed by India Mahdavi, is tinged with red accents, from beach balls to the flowers on the mod-fabric lampshades to the rooftop waterbeds Lenny Kravitz and Chloe Sevigny have supposedly sprawled across. There are down-home tricks like do-it-yourself laundry facilities, an all-you-can-eat breakfast pantry, plus lone pieces of exercise equipment positioned sculpturelike at the end of each floor's hallway. There is some corner cutting, like the lack of a usable gym, the half-block walk to the beach, and a Day-Glo misting fountain instead of a pool, but that means you can blow your cash on what makes South Beach South Beach -- mounds of creamed spinach at Joe's Stone Crab, apple martinis at BED, followed by a 4 a.m. breakfast at the 11th Street Diner on Washington.
