Torrential rainfall turned streets into fast flowing rivers in parts of the popular holiday destination of Gran Canaria on Monday.
The town of Telde in the east of the island was particularly hard hit with heavy downpours. Cars were swept away into ravines and into the sea by torrents of floodwater.
Around 32mm of rain fell in Telde, with higher amounts falling in the surrounding mountains. The average rainfall for March here is 13mm.
People were advised to stay indoors as AEMET, Spain's national weather agency issued a red alert across Gran Canaria on Monday. Showery weather is set to continue this week.
