G reenpoint residents Paige Yim, a marketing manager at Murray’s Cheese, and Derrick Huang, an animation producer, opted for a low-key backyard celebration when they got married last spring. “We love to rent houses with friends, and wanted to recreate that same fun experience for our guests,” says Paige. The couple, both 29, researched vacation rentals on VRBO and fell for Barn on the Pond in Woodstock, where they held a group sleepover followed by a Sunday brunch for 50 guests on the property. Paige’s best friend and Derrick’s brother composed the bridal party, and Paige carried a bouquet of flowers that she had picked on a roadside nearby. The only element the two were particular about was the food. Paige and Derrick worked with their catering company to create original recipes like sweet-tea-brined fried chicken. Recalls Paige: “Nobody was surprised that we served coconut-covered banana slices instead of wedding cake.”
