Back in Herman Melville’s day, Sailors’ Snug Harbor was a nautical retirement community. The 2.5-acre heritage farm of today’s Snug Harbor pays homage to that past and is perfect for those looking for a simple farm wedding who don’t want to schlep to the Hudson Valley. Couples can place tables on pebble beds beside rows of kale, peppers, and eggplant for 40 friends or spring for the nearby white-tented pavilion with stone floors and strung lights for 200. There are seven lovely gardens on-site as well, including the Tuscan Garden directly across from the farm�its olive-tree-filled glass house is a perfect post-dinner photo spot.

Country: Stone & Thistle Farm
East Meredith, New York

This livestock farm and goat dairy in the Catskills has opened its fields and 1860 Greek Revival farmhouse to private events, following the success of Fable, its farm-to-table restaurant. Exchange vows in the middle of pastures among grazing lambs or behind the dairy barn by Kortright Creek�you can arrive in a hay wagon or on Icelandic horses, if the dress permits. Dinner comes from Fable, which serves hearty dishes like steak with shallot pan sauce, and couples looking to get their hands dirty can help pick vegetables from the garden or learn how to slaughter a rabbit. Up to 50 guests may eat buffet style in the restaurant, but groups larger than that will need to pitch a tent in the daisy and larkspur fields.

City: The Albra Room

This year, tried-and-true LIC wedding venue the Foundry has added an adjacent, industrial-style space called the Albra Room, named after the Albra Metal Foundry that made its home there in 1906. Only 70 guests are allowed in the 1,000-square-foot room, which, much like the Foundry, has an elegant, industrial look�white-brick walls, vaulted glass ceilings, and antique-mirrored archways. If the crowd gets too boisterous for one room, a 150-square-foot space that lies just outside in the courtyard can be rented, and a separate bar can be set up for drinks under the stars.

Country: The Cracker Factory
Geneva, New York

In 2007, designers Brandon and Amy Phillips bought a straight-razor factory and converted it into the Cracker Factory, a complex now home to Miles & May, their furniture company, and 3 Stories, an art space. A few years ago, the factory began holding weddings in the second-floor gallery, and now allows 340 guests in the 5,000-square-foot space. Celebrate amid the gallery’s weathered brick walls and white wood trusses; there’s plenty of room for a D.J. and dancing. A number of local caterers (e.g., Geneva’s Club 86) can cover all the wedding classics, like passed shrimp cocktails and bacon-wrapped scallops.
