Five local bartenders concoct classy alternatives to the lemon drop.

What’s Your Sign?

Simple and juicy, with a clean, cutting taste owing to sharp ginger liqueur.
2 oz. vodka
1� oz. ginger liqueur (such as Domaine de Canton)
1 oz. black-currant purée (such as the Perfect Purée of Napa Valley)
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine ingredients, shake, and strain into shot glasses.

Yukon

A heavy dose of yuzu gives this shot tartness.
2 oz. bourbon (such as Old Grand-Dad or Bulleit)
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. yuzu juice
� oz. apricot liqueur
Make simple syrup using a 1-to-1 ratio of sugar to water. Combine ingredients, shake, and double-strain into shot glasses.

The One-Two Punch

Stranahan’s is heavy on brown sugar and caramel, perfect for accompanying a cake cutting.
2 oz. Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey
1 oz. ginger liqueur
� oz. Drambuie
� oz. fresh lemon juice
1 dash absinthe
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine ingredients, shake, and strain into 1-ounce shot glasses. Garnish with grated cinnamon.

The Blushing Bride

A delicate but deceptively strong floral number.
For the syrup:
13 grams hibiscus flowers
4 cups sugar
1 oz. Peychaud’s bitters
Soak flowers in 1 liter warm water for 15 minutes. Strain.
Add sugar and bitters.
Blend, stir, or whisk until sugar dissolves � no grit.
Yield: 6 cups.
For the shot:
2 oz. Campo de Encanto pisco
� oz. lemon juice
� oz. hibiscus syrup
Combine in a shaker, shake 5 seconds. Double-strain into shot glasses.

The Seven Wonders

This one is light and just a touch sweet and bubbly � excellent for an early-evening toast.
2 bar spoons quince jam
1 bar spoon honey syrup
(3 parts honey to 1 part water)
� oz. Baines Pacharan
Classico liqueur
� oz. Cardamaro
1 oz. Irish whiskey
Pinch black pepper
Splash of cava
Shake first 6 ingredient, strain into shot glasses. Top with cava. Express a lemon twist over each shot.
