So You Think You Can Curate

As the European shows (Documenta, Venice, etc.) quietly press on into fall, one local gallery has taken this opportunity to riff on a decidedly highbrow, often exclusive process. Apexart’s “The Most Curatorial Biennial of the Universe,†up through August 11, started as an open call for amateur curators (i.e. anyone willing to slap a “curated by†in front of their names). The resulting show is expectedly varied, and a chance for any and all struggling artists to add a “biennial†to their résumés. The cheeky photograph above, taken by Kamil Gubata and submitted by “curator†Agnieszka Pindera, is one of some 450 works up in this salon-style showing and seems to suggest a seedy Coney Island of yore. All works are for sale via online bidding, and last we checked, this one’s price point was hovering at a measly $10. Not necessarily the most reliable art investment, but at that price, who cares? —Rachel Wolff
