Gosh, Isn’t Jamie Foxx the Greatest?

Sometimes, when we want to creep ourselves out, we stop in the middle of the sidewalk, take look around, and remind ourselves of the fact that one out of every ten folks around us probably considers himself a fan of Jamie Foxx. It’s not just that Foxx, perhaps our all-time least favorite performer on Def Poetry Jam, is a pompous raging jerk who also seems totally lecherous; he’s also so goofy that we swear we lose brain cells every time we catch sight of his grin. As far as we’re concerned, he’s basically a combination of Brett Ratner and Robin Williams. But wait, there’s more to this than just our reckless trashing of the guy that everyone already knows is sort of a dick!

Earlier today we accidentally came across an article about the man who once imitated Stevie Wonder on SNL and went on to win an Oscar for his similarly incisive portrayal of Ray Charles that quoted the actor as saying the following, in response to a question about Michael Vick: “I know that cruelty to animals is bad, but sometimes people shoot people and kill people and don’t get time. I think in this situation, he really didn’t know the extent of it, so I always give him the benefit of the doubt.� Also: “It’s a cultural thing, I think. Most brothers didn’t know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn’t know that was Fed time.� Nice, JF. Defend a guy who just pleaded guilty to the abuse and killing of dogs by claiming the practice as a “cultural thing.� We’re sure the people in your hometown of Terrell, Texas, are proud to have you as their ambassador. —Nick Catucci
