Perhaps riding on the Whitney’s psychedelic coat tails, the Lower East Side’s Envoy Gallery’s August exhibition is now showcasing works by Alain Dister — a French photographer who spent the better part of the sixties taking in Stateside sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Dister’s Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic (above) recalls a quainter time when visits to the free clinic were carefree and also, apparently, aesthetically pleasing. Alain Dister’s aptly titled “Elegy for the Summer of Love� is up through September 1. —Rachel Wolff
