According to TV Guide, Disney has begun shooting what they hope to be the next High School Musical–style megahit: Camp Rock. Set to premiere next summer, Camp Rock tells the story of a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who takes a job as a dishwasher at a performing-arts summer camp. Tween girls will be saddened to discover that the movie won’t star Zac Efron or his dreamy blue eyes but will be thrilled to learn that it will star Joe, Kevin, and Nick Jonas, a.k.a. the Jonas Brothers, a.k.a. the next Hanson.

Grown-ups, on the other hand, will be thrilled to note that the movie is being co-written by eighties novelty tunesmith Julie Brown. No, not ex-V.J. “Downtown†Julie Brown; the other one, the one who was in Earth Girls Are Easy and who sang “The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun,†which we realize was a lot funnier in an era before school shootings were commonplace. As former Dr. Demento aficionados, we couldn’t be more pleased that Julie Brown has gotten this gig, even as we regretfully acknowledge that she probably won’t include her greatest-ever song in the mix.
